Today's lesson is an introduction to short stories. During this course we will be mainly focusing on the short stories written by Roald Dahl such as "The Landlady" and "Lamb to the Slaughter".
What is a short story?
To begin we need to consider the following questions:
1) What is a short story?
2) What makes a short story different to a longer narrative?
3) What are the characteristics of a short story?
These questions will be answered in the following handout "What is a short story".

2. Click on the section that says "Roald Dahl"
3. Have fun exploring Roald Dahl's biography, view the interview with Roald Dahl where he talks about being a writer and gives tips on getting ideas for stories and what it is like to write a book. You should also check out his photo album.
4. Go into the section on "books and stuff" and have a look at all the stories he has written.
Your Task
Write a report on what you have learnt about Roald Dahl, his life as a writer, tips on how to write stories and other interesting information he provided in his interview. Don't forget to include images! This should be no longer than a 1 page overview.
